One of the other new Marilyn Monroe pieces currently in the works. Acrylic and silk screen on canvas, 24” x 24”. Love the direction these are going, and love getting back into the swing of painting. It’s been nice…
Here’s another peek into the workings of Napkin Art Studios.
More scenes from Napkin Art HQ, as I get ready for Spring Cleaning…
Yup, been promising this for a while now. About to deliver on said promise soon…
Big fun time STUDIO PARTY happening with Napkin Art and studio neighbors, Dowdy Studio, on Saturday, Sept. 22nd from 6-9(ish)pm!!! Can find updates and such on our Tumblr page.
This first joint studio party will serve as my big ‘GRAND OPENING’ party, an official grand opening that has been 8 years in the making. Glad I’m finally at a point where I can open my studio up to the public for a change. Have a few goodies in store for this party, such as an exclusive print design (you can only get at the party) with all proceeds going to a local charity (TBD.) You’ll also get a chance to get a peek at the rest of our artistic wares, drink free beer, eat lots of snacks and have a good time.
Hoping this is the first of many parties Napkin Art and Dowdy will throw for our fans, friends, and Dallas neighbors.
It’s been a while since I’ve got to do any real painting for myself, or for any gallery’s sake, and I’ve sort of been feeling a little guilty for ignoring this part of it all. But, after a much-needed break, I have a new found eagerness to start working on some paintings again.
I took two paintings on wood that were started late last year that either were not really to my liking, or just got messed up during the painting/screen printing process. Instead of wasting the frame, I took an orbital sander to the smaller piece to strip off the paint and ink. After a few minutes of sanding, I started to like what I saw, and decided to experiment with this ‘look’ a little bit more. I now have several paintings in various states of this look for some future finished work, which I must say is a total relief. As much as I like printmaking, painting is my first love, not to mention my bread and butter.
These new paintings will probably end up in my upcoming exhibition, “House on Fire” at Cherry Branch Gallery, opening October 6th.
A peek at the growing studio innards…
So, this week saw the official launch of my new printing company with friend and fellow screen printer, Richard Reed, called Rigor Mortis Printing Co. Since both of us have our own projects going on in our respective areas of expertise, we figure this would be a great way to join forces and have a broader appeal and client base to draw from. We figure, at least in this early stage, we’ll deal more with screen printed tees and other garments, as well as posters, prints and various other contract work, all the while pushing our own brand of graphic tees and such.
Last night I decided to stick around in the studio for a few extra innings and printed up our first promo poster featuring our slogan: “Print to the Death!” We’ll be giving a few of these away soon, along with some our soon-to-be-printed logo tees. The poster is a three color hand silk screened print, 13 x 25 inches on French’s Starch White Speckletone 100lb cover stock. This is an open edition print, but does come signed by yours truly. We’ll be designing and printing a few other posters soon, so keep yer eyes peeled!
We’ve got some other great things in the works too, like working with another swell clothing brand called Codeword:Clothing. They officially launch in August, and RMP is stoked to be their official printer! Pics and additional details to come soon…

Feeling like the studio is really coming together now, especially after adding not one, BUT TWO, flat file cabinets to the mix.
